Rianna DequenneAes Sedai of the Green Ajah
"The past speaks to us in a thousand voices, warning and comforting, animating and stirring to action." Character Attributes
Character's Full Name: Rianna Dequenne
Status Desired (Novice, Accepted, Aes Sedai, Recruit, Warder): Aes Sedai
Ajah: Green
Age: 59
Home Country: Amadicia, The City State of Amador.
Appearance:Rianna was born with a sparkle in her eyes, and she has always possessed an innate cunning which as a child was hidden beneath her innocent look and open features. Her sweet, cherub face and large emerald green eyes endeared her to her parents and her friends as a child, and as she matured she never lost that twinkle of mischief in her eye. Even her education in the white tower could not dull or diminish her penchant for adventure and devilry, and her innocent face often got her out of several lashings from her Mistress of Novices, who was at that time Temaithia Kesseei. As she progressed through her childhood she lost her round face, which narrowed and became more like her fathers; her high cheek bones accentuated her now more narrowed eyes, and her thin lips and pointed chin completed the look of a more severe looking young woman. She was born with extremely curly blonde hair, but the colour lost its white vibrancy and became a somewhat richer strawberry blonde, although she never lost her curls they did lengthen (as she refuses to wear her hair above her chin) and became long ringlets. This is her vanity. Her hair is precious to her, and she is quite obsessive over it. She believes it to be her saving grace, her one beauty. Her time as a novice made her paranoid about her hair as it was used as a way to punish her. Several times during her time in the white tower, as novice and accepted, she had her hair cut to her ears as punishment for several transgressions. She abhors her freckled skin and often obscures her face with her strawberry blonde ringlets.
As an Aes Sedai she wears a silver chain in her hair with several emeralds hanging like charms from it; the largest of which settles high on her forehead. She is slender and of average height, around 5’6’’. Her limbs are willowy and often she is referred to as “clumsily built” and a “graceless, ill shaped woman”. This is extremely harsh on Rianna, as she is not particularly tall and hardly looms over people. She just has a problem controlling her flailing limbs. This helps and hinders her with her weaves as for some more complex and difficult ones her flexible arms and hands aid her, but it’s the simple weaves she has a problem producing. Even now, in the new age of Legends where hand gestures are no longer taught or needed or at least not as compulsorily as they once were in the White Tower, Rianna has come to rely on them. She was berated in her days as a novice for relying on them, and as she matured she was advised to discard them altogether. Rianna is as stubborn as she is cunning though, and so developed this reputation of appearing clumsy and less graceful as an Aes Sedai.
She is moderately pretty, and in some instances can appear very plain. She is a pale woman, and her hair really is her most beautiful feature. Here figure is of no particular note. She is slim, but that is due to her constant travelling, and therefore regular exercise. Her hips are as alluring as the next woman’s, although as a Green she does know how to use them better them most Aes Sedai perhaps. That at least, in this new age, has not really changed. She possesses the ageless beauty like all Aes Sedai, but there is always that mischievous, cunning glint in her eye, even though she has gained the shawl. Her clothes vary, as she prefers to dress according to what country she is in. In the White Tower however, she tends to dress in a light green silk dress and slippers and of course her shawl, with its green fringe. On her left hand fourth finger, she wears the gold Aes Sedai ring, the serpent eating its own tale, an ancient symbol of the wheel of time itself.
Character DetailsPersonality (at least 2 paragraphs):Rianna is a stubborn woman. She always has been. She likes things done her way, and is often outspoken about the things she disagrees with. As a novice she often got rebuked for talking back and even as an adult and full Aes Sedai she tends to break convention but not acceding to those stronger in the One Power or considered influential. This is why she does not spend a lot of time in the White Tower. Considered by most to be a rather disrespectful and strange Aes Sedai, she is often ridiculed in private and ignored in public by most outside of her own Ajah.
She is kind though, and the Greens are endeared to her because she is so passionate and feisty.
She is dogmatic and can sometimes be blinded by her own assumptions and eagerness. She often ignores the opinions and feelings of others and disregards most peoples advice. The only person she truly listens to is Simian, but this is nothing to do with respect. She knows he always tells her the truth and its the truth that she respects. All the subversion and misdirection that Aes Sedai are prone too annoys her, she prefers to be upfront and completely honest, truly keeping her oaths and fulfilling her role and duty as Aes Sedai.
She is not as much of a flirt as most greens, but does enjoy wearing clinging dresses and robes. She keeps her affairs to herself and is a very private person. Her relationships are not well known and she does not like expressing any other emotion other then her passion for her cause. Her relationship with her warder is a complex one, as they are both very complex and altruistic people. They are attracted to one another, but are unsure as to whether or not they should express these sexual feelings, they do not want to affect their working relationship and feel that a relationship beyond warder and Aes Sedai might effect their ability to protect one another. She loves him, she knows this, but she will not pursue it, well... not unless he does.
Likes (at least 5, with a sentence for each):Anything from the Age of Legends: She has an obsession with artefacts. Some of her sisters think she missed her calling as a Brown, such is her interest in these things.
Singing: Rianna does not have a sweet voice, but she does enjoy singing. Hardly a Songstress, but she can carry a tune without breaking every glass in the room or making the dogs howl.
Rivers: And any body of water. She finds that water calms her. This is ironic as she has no aptitude with water weaves at all.
History: Rianna enjoys learning about the history of her world, again, something which is more becoming of a Brown.
Horse riding: This is something she has always enjoyed doing, and as she travels so much she gets to d a lot of it.
Dislikes (at least 5, with a sentence for each):Late nights and early mornings: Rianna enjoys her sleep.
Camping: Especially in bad weather. If there is an Inn and a bed, she will find it.
Snobbery: One of her pet peeves are people with their noses in the air; especially other Aes Sedai who treat people like muck.
Stairs: She is not lazy per se. She hates going doing them as much as she hates climbing them. She tends to fall down them if she is not being careful.
Cooking: Out of all domestic chores, this is the worst. She relies heavily on her warder and her purse to either buy or make food. She is not very self sufficient.
Character HistoryFamily:Rianna was born in Amador, heart of Amadicia and home of the once formidable Children of the Light. The Children dwindled after the Last Battle, as Amadicia accepted the role which the One Power played in saving their world. Once a dangerous place for Aes Sedai, Amadicia now no longer has anti channeller laws, yet the Children of the Light still exist and they still abhor the One Power.
A few Questioners continued to propagate their beliefs and over the ensuing two hundred years recruited enough people to make the Children of the Light strong again. This new order, following the beliefs of the Questioners, made Amador a city state that is now separate from the rest of Amadicia.
Rianna’s father is a Captain in this new order of Children of the Light.
Rianna’s mother discovered the girl could channel when she was around 14 years old. She mysteriously healed her baby brother after he had fallen out of a tree. Rianna suddenly became very sick, and her father feared she would die, but shockingly she recovered a few hours later. Her father mentioned his children’s’ miraculous recoveries to his comrades and they warned him that she might be able to channel, that she might possess the ability to use the One Power. Their beliefs and accusations plagued him and he fought with himself over whether or not his own daughter really was a darkfriend… His family home was outside of the city, on an estate in the country. He sped home as fast as his horse could carry him, intent on dealing with the scourge that plagued his house. By the time he returned he found that his wife, Rianna’s mother, had packed her daughter off to the White Tower to train as an Aes Sedai.
Personal History:Rianna has been an Aes Sedai since she was 31, was an Accepted at the age of 23 and a novice at the age of 16.

Rianna arrived in Tar Valon amidst confusion, sorrow and betrayal in her heart. She had left her mother t the mercy of her father and had travelled hundreds of miles to a place she had never even heard of until the night she left. She had listened as her mother, her face streaking with tears, explained to her why she had t leave. When she was shown to her room in the novice quarters she cried all night, but dutifully, and because her mother had wanted it, put n her white dress and decided to not make her mothers sacrifice a vain one.
Hers was a life of simplicity, hard work and discipline for seven, long years. Her room was small and stark, the furnishings bare and plain. It was so far removed from what she had been used to on her parent’s huge estate that she often made mistakes and assumptions that got her lashed by the Mistress f Novices. It did not take her too long to settle though and soon she was being lashed for practical jokes and clumsy performances of weaves.
She hated her chores and would do anything to get out of them. She didn’t see the point of them as the Tower had well over a thousand serving men and women. She was told, during her many lashing sessions, that “physical work helped build character”, but this was a lesson that never sunk into Rianna. The welts sunk deeper then any lessons that seemed as pointless as this one.
Rianna was extremely surprised when she was summoned for her test for Accepted. She had been told time and again that she would never progress past being a novice and that she was too clumsy to learn any weaves well enough t become Aes Sedai. Rianna may have ignored these words at the time, but they always sunk deep into her heart when she was alone in her room at night. She practised hard, often getting n sleep and earning herself more punishments for being late to classes. So, when she faced the arches that were ter'angreal deep in the lower levels of the White Tower, she was more confident then any of them thought she should be. She shivered as she stared at the three silver arches which were filled with an odd flickering light. She did not refuse to go through, as she now had nothing else to come back to. She needed to progress and it was here that the Aes Sedai first saw the battling spirit and refusal to give up that would later be one of her greatest attributes.
When walked through the first arch she found she had returned to her childhood home. Her mother was trying to get her onto a horse and she was crying and trying to get off. Instead of riding away she decided to get ff and go back inside with her mother. She was afraid for her and feared the return of her father. Instead she confronted him, stood up to him and faced his awful accusations. Just as he drew his sword the archway appeared and she knew she could go back through it. She continued onto the next arch and faced her second fear. She had been thrown out of the Tower for failing her test for Accepted and was being forced to return home again. When she got there the estate had been burnt to the ground and she encountered the grave of her mother and brother. Her father came out of the house with Whitecloaks and arrested her. She was taken to be tortured and put t death, and in the cell she accepted her failures but vowed to return to the Tower and try again. She would not deny who she was and she was proud of it, and would avenge her mother and brother. In the wall of her prison the archway appeared and she exited. Her final test was her ultimate fear of the future. She was alone in the Tower, wearing her green shawl and as she passed a mirror she saw she was extremely old. The world was a wasteland outside and trollocs roamed the broken city and ate whoever they could catch and find. Rianna looked out from the Tower and could not watch any more. She went to confront them and decided it was better to die fighting then to live in such a world as this. She could not stand by and watch people suffer. As the trollocs approached her the archway appeared, and she almost did not go through it. Something in the back of her mind screamed at her saying she had the chance to fight and to stop this world from degenerating; all she had to do was walk through the archway. And so she did, and passed her test for Accepted.
When she received her ring she was dignified and did not shed a tear. She had faced her fears and knew she would be able to overcome her ineptitude with her weaves as well. She simply put on her banded dress and a Great Serpent ring, and moved on to her time as one of the Accepted.
Her time as Accepted was as unvaried and uneventful as her time as a Novice. She taught classes, occasionally got punished for her misdemeanour's, and worked harder then ever on conquering her weaknesses. She proved to be more adept at the harder weaves but was constantly let down by her over compensation with the easier weaves. She now had a larger and more comfortable room, but by now she had lost her nobility and forgotten the house of her father. She was grateful for the extra room, but it did not aid her in her training. She had friends, but one by one they either were thrown out of the Tower or passed their test for the shawl.
After eight years of rehearsing the sequence of one hundred complex weaves, she was called to take her test for the shawl. When she entered the spinning ring structure she was immediately in a ferocious storm. She started forming her weaved, and one by one she got closer to the one hundred mark. She endured many harrowing and painful experiences, running whilst performing a complex weave using all five powers, but nearly stumbled when she had to produce one of the easier ones. Her goal of becoming Aes Sedai almost ended here, but she managed to save the weave at the last moment and completed all one hundred. She kept her composure, performing all the weaves perfectly, and in order, whilst maintaining an outward serenity that none thought possible for Rianna Dequenne. She passed her test for the shawl; but she was very badly injured at the end of the test. She was given Healing there and then, and sent off for a night of meditation. Although expected to stay awake all night, despite her certain exhaustion, and reflect on her new duties, Rianna did what Rianna does best, and that was skip out and go to the river. It was there she reflected, and fell asleep by the river, making her late in receiving her shawl and taking her oaths the next day… The binding to the Oath Rod was chilling, the oaths sinking into her. She was looking forward to testing out her ‘lies’, and did not hesitate in choosing the Green Ajah. She had known from her test for Accepted that that was what she wanted and what she was destined for.
She learned to tame the One Power but Tar Valon did not completely tame her. It was this desire to be about her own business and battle the world and all its wrongs that made her perfect for the Green Ajah. Her interest in history was sparked by her first visit to Tar Valon’s library. There she made firm friends with members of the Brown Ajah, who often commented on her strange addiction to books and the odd choice of Ajah. Those who really knew her though, realised that this thirst for knowledge preceded an idea. She was looking for something, and soon, after many months of reading, found her calling.
She had been in the section that few Aes Sedai bothered to go any more. With the Talent for making cuendillar rediscovered by Egwene the White Tower had been making new objects similar to those made in the Age of Legends for over two hundred years. Yet, Rianna was fascinated by the objects of this period and the notes written on them. It was a book about the rumoured missing artefacts that intrigued her though. She logged the description, believed purpose and the last location of these objects in a diary and set off into the world to find them.
She gained a reputation for finding relics of the Age of Legends, and became a favourite amongst the Browns. It was only the nature of these artefacts that gave her the continued support of her own Ajah. They were items of supposed great power, some believed to be weapons, or devices that discovered darkfriends. She had no real personal interest in how they worked, that was what the Brown Ajah was for. No, she loved the hunt, and the adventure, and being the one to discover these mysteries and add to the White Towers collection of weapons from this age. For it had been such an artefacts that had cleansed Saidin…if she could find something that might one day fight the Dark One and his minions; then she was fulfilling her role as a Green sister.
Decades passed and her loneliness grew, the absence of a Warder starting to weigh heavily upon her. Like most Greens she enjoyed the company of men, but had until a few years ago never had a Warder. Why she waited so long, no one really knew, and she never talked about it. Some believed she had fallen in love with a man who was not a warder, and so thought it inappropriate to have one.
Unlike most Aes Sedai, Rianna was always considered reckless; her penchant for diving in at the deep end into most situations eventually put her in serious danger and almost ended in her death. She was in Andor at the time and had stepped in to help a woman who was being harassed by some men in an alleyway, when she was grabbed from behind and a knife put to her throat. Before the man could slit it, he was pulled off her and had a stranger’s sword through him. The rest of the men were also dead. Standing there was her future warder, Simian Dacascos.
She is currently returning to Tar Valon to discuss a ter’angreal she recently discovered.
Personal Goals and Philosophies:She has no ambitions in furthering herself as an Aes Sedai. She does not aspire t be a sitter, or Amyrlin, and does not want to be the leader of her Ajah. Her only goals lie in finding ter’angreal.
Her philosophy is simple. Take what you have and make it better. She still practices her weaves and even though she has been advised to cease with the hand gestures she is stubborn and refuses to change. In the back of her mind she thinks that maybe it would improve her weaves and proficiency with them and has started to drop the hand gestures with some of the simpler weaves.
